             All Century Husker Team

All team members were selected through an on-line poll at www.huskerwebcast.com during the 1999 football season and through the spring game in April. Almost 10,000 Husker fans placed their votes in selecting the team, which is dominated by players on the five Husker national championship teams. Linebacker Tom Novak, Nebraska's only four-time all-conference selection, was the only player chosen who played prior to the Devaney era.

The overall top vote getter was Johnny Rodgers, who received a total of 14,467 votes at two positions (receiver and kick returner). The 1972 Heisman Trophy winner, Rodgers is also Nebraska's most recent College Football Hall of Fame honoree, as he will be inducted later this year in New York City. He is joined on the offense by I-backs Mike Rozier and Roger Craig, fullbacks Joel Makovicka and Tom Rathman, wingback Irving Fryar and tight end Junior Miller. The quarterback is touchdown Tommie Frazier, who led the Huskers to back-to-back national championships in 1994 and 1995. The school record holder for total offense, Frazier won the Johnny Unitas Award as the nation's top quarterback as a senior and had a career record of 33-3 as Nebraska's starting QB. The huge offensive line includes five Outland Trophy winners, led by two-time recipient Dave Rimington. Also Outland winners Will Shields, Aaron Taylor, Zach Wiegert and Dean Steinkuhler, along with All-American Bob Newton, join Rimington on the offensive front. Wiegert was the top vote-getter on offense, receiving almost 8,000 votes.

The defense is led by an all-star front line, all of who were first-round NFL Draft picks. Defensive tackles Jason Peter and Neil Smith and middle guard Rich Glover fill the interior while pass rushing specialists Grant Wistrom, Trev Alberts and Broderick Thomas man the outside positions of the defensive line. A pair of run-stoppers join Novak on the linebacker corps, they are Marc Munford and Ed Stewart. Munford led Nebraska in tackles for three consecutive seasons (1984-86), while Stewart was a finalist for the Butkus Award in 1994. Two recent All-Americans headline the defensive backfield, as 1999 All-Americans Mike Brown and Ralph Brown were the top vote getters at safety and cornerback, respectively. The duo is joined by cornerback Michael Booker and rover Mike Minter, a pair of defensive standouts on Nebraska's 1994 and 1995 national title teams. Wistrom was the top vote getter among defensive players with almost 7,000 votes cast.
Kris Brown was chosen as the starting place-kicker .He set the school record with 388 points from 1995 to 1998, converting 217-of-222 PATs . Jesse Kosch won as Nebraska's top punter, as he finished his career as NU's single-season (44.7 average in 1996) and career (41.90) punting leader. Also making the team was kick return specialist Tyrone Hughes, who holds NU's single-season and career kick return records.
