Thunder Collins Arrested Again
LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Backup Nebraska running back Thunder Collins has been accused of assaulting his girlfriend.
Collins, 21, was cited late Tuesday for misdemeanor domestic assault, the Lincoln Journal Star reported Wednesday. Police said he lives with the 19-year-old woman, who is a student at the University of Nebraska. A June 27 court date was set.
Coach Frank Solich said the team was evaluating the situation.Collins
will be allowed to stay on the team while the investigation
continues.Collins has pleaded not guilty.
It is Collins' second brush with the law in less than three months. He was accused of holding a loud party in April, then was arrested for failing to appear in court before he pleaded guilty March 31 to maintaining a disorderly house and was fined $100 plus court costs.
In the latest incident, the woman told police that she wanted to sleep on a couch early Sunday morning but Collins tried to pull her into a bedroom, scratching her waist.
Later that day, the woman alleged, she and Collins argued at a campus recreation center and he hit her with a basketball when she tried to leave, grabbed her throat, put her in a headlock and shoved her down three or four times. She bit one of Collins' arms to get away, the woman told police.
A relative of the woman reported the incidents Tuesday night.Obviously she
is not a Husker fan and should be exiled from the state.
Collins, a junior college transfer from Los Angeles, was listed as Nebraska's No. 2 running back along with two others after spring practice. In Nebraska's spring game, he rushed nine times for 44 yards and scored a touchdown. He played in three games last year, carrying the ball 13 times for 77 yards.
A junior-to-be, Collins was briefly suspended earlier this spring for academic problems.
