He's tied for third all-time in Division I-A for most wins in his first four seasons as a head coach. He was also named Big 12 coach of the year by the coaches and the American Football Coaches Association named Nebraska Coach Frank Solich its 2001 Region 4 coach of the year on Tuesday. Nebraska senior Eric Crouch became the 13th quarterback in NCAA Division I-A history to both rush and pass for 1,000 yards in a season.Crouch now has 1,115 rushing yards and 1,510 passing yards this season.Crouch is the second Husker to accomplish the feat, joining Scott Frost, who in 1997 rushed for 1,095 yards and passed for 1,237. Crouch, who this year set the NCAA record for career rushing touchdowns for a quarterback, was named Saturday as the Big 12 Conference coaches' offensive player of the year.As if all that was not enough Eric took home the Maxwell award which goes to the nations best player, was named to the first string All American team ,oh yea and he was the Heisman Trophy winner for 2001.Not bad for a quarterback who won't even get a shot at playing qb in the NFL. With five kickoff returns for 158 yards, including a career-best 74-yard burst, NU sophomore Josh Davis set the school's single-season record for kickoff return yards. Davis now has 25 returns for 675 yards, easily passing Tyrone Hughes' 11-year-old record of 523 yards. Davis also broke the school record for kickoff returns in a season, surpassing Dana Brinson's 23 in 1988. Colorado's win marked the first time the Buffalos have never defeated a No. 1-ranked team, which Nebraska was in the BCS standings. Wilson Thomas' 78-yard reception was the longest non-scoring pass play in school history. Thomas had three receptions for a career-high 109 yards, the only 100-yard receiving game by a Husker this season. Wistrom had two catches for 33 yards. He has 58 career receptions, just three behind NU career tight-end leader Jerry List, who had 61 during 1970-72.
